Traitorous breach? President Trump infamously disclosed the whereabouts of highly secretive US nuclear submarines

The secret sidebar by President Trump with Russian head of state Vladimir Putin is not the only example of seriously questionable behavior by this recalcitrant president.

In May 2017 during an unsecured cell phone conversation with Philippine dictator Rodrigo Duterte, Trump casually told the Philippine leader that the US Navy had two nuclear submarines parked in waters off the Korean Peninsula.

That was unconscionable. One of the US military’s most guarded secrets is the whereabouts of the Navy’s nuclear Poseidon fleet, said to comprise 18 submarines, each bearing 24 nuclear-tipped Trident II ballistic missiles, each singular missile armed with three warheads capable of hitting three separate targets. Do the math: 3×24 = 72 nukes x 18 nuclear subs = 1,296 nuclear devices each with the destructive wallop 30,000 times the power of the atomic bombs unleashed on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in the Second World War.

Imagine 30,000 Hiroshima atomic detonations simultaneously? Armageddon is the only word that best illustrates this scenario.

And Trump casually dropped this classified intel in the ear of Duterte. I suspect the information wasn’t meant for Duterte, but North Korean strongman Kim Jong-un, and most strategically to Putin. The Trump faux pas infuriated the Department of Defense, Joint Chiefs of Staff, every high-ranking US military officer, and specifically the submarine captains whose warships and sailors had been recklessly put at great peril.

The military strategy is to maintain the secrecy of the whereabouts of the apocalyptic doomsday warships to enable delivery of a measured end-of-world response in the event the US was ever nuked in a preemptive strike by an adversary like China or Russia. An arsenal of 1,296 nuclear warheads is enough to destroy the world many times over.

These Polaris submarines constantly navigate the world’s oceans without needing to resurface to refuel for 25 years, undetected and at the ready to deploy their horrific arsenal should the order come from the president, who happens to be woefully unqualified and ill-equipped to harbor such an awesome responsibility.

Trump, the deluded narcissist is the real threat to national security.
