St. John’s ribbon-cutting ushers in partnership with Compton Community College District

COMPTON St. John’s Well Child and Family Center ushered in a new day at the Compton Community College District on Dec. 11, 2018, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony heralding a new partnership to provide health and wellness services to students.

Through this new student health services agreement, the Student Health Center will be open 32 hours per week. The health care services provided to enrolled students include medical services, physical exams, dental screenings, behavioral health, nutrition, family planning, assistance with benefits enrollment, and more.

“School-based health care plays a critical role in providing health care services to students in a convenient and comfortable setting—their college campus,” said Jim Mangia, president, and CEO, St. John’s Well Child and Family Center.

“We are honored to partner with Compton College to provide vital health care services to thousands of its students, in order to improve student and community health outcomes,” Mangia said. “As the largest school-based care provider in Los Angeles County, we know that students’ who are healthy and manage their health have greater success and engage fully in their educational experiences,”

The Student Health Center is located in Room M-4, near the gymnasium and Campus Police.

Appointments may be made in advance by calling (323) 541-1411 or on a walk-in basis. The hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 1-5 p.m.; Wednesday 11 a.m. to 3:30 p.m; and 4-7:30 p.m. Compton College students are assessed a $19 student health fee per semester and $16 per session (such as during the summer).
