COMMENTARY: ‘Mother Up,’ Man Up; turn off the public discourse and infuse Lamar, Jr. with love, care and affection
Now that a judge has ruled that comedienne, actress and ex-TV talk show co-host Sherri Shepherd is the legal mother of Lamar Sally, Jr., who was born through a surrogate, the two should act like mature adults – “Mother Up,” “Man Up,” and shut up!
Lamar, Jr. didn’t ask to be brought into this world naked on a steaming flat-bed of Hollywood scat. But now that he’s here someone must love and care for him. Shepherd’s and Sally’s spat is unduly trifling and so inappropriate for the public square.
Shepherd and her estranged husband, Sally, have been in court over this since August 2014, with the former co-host of “The View” admitting she wants nothing to do with the child. She claims she was tricked into having the child with Sally and therefore should be absolved of all responsibility to the child. How can one be tricked into giving birth to a human being? Seems absurd. What could he have offered her, and why. Maybe Sally just wanted a child. Well, his wish was answered.
Shepherd, for her part should embrace Lamar, Jr. with love. How could she carry a living being in her womb for nine months and not develop a profound love for the child. That’s colder than hate bordering on something dreadfully evil, as despicable as discarding a newborn in a garbage heap. Shepherd should give love a chance. If that’s doesn’t happen, she’s at least liable to provide for Lamar, Jr., since her income far exceeds Sally’s. She should do it in a dignified, quite manner. After all, she freely consented to birth the child.
As for Sally, he heaps scorn on himself for publicly crying for aid in raising his son. Man up, Sally! Do what it takes to provide for this child who will look up to you as his provider, protector and king, or in time when he is able to sort out matters for himself, look upon you as a pitiful example of a man.
A Pennsylvania judge, however, pointed to Shepherd’s signature on the birth certificate.
Lamar says he “wants Shepherd to go on television and apologize to him, the same way she went on television and accused [him] of being a gold digger and tricking her into having a baby.”
So trifling. Such a tragedy.
Shepherd and Sally should grow up, turn off the public discourse, and infuse Lamar, Jr. with all the love, care and affection that his little heart can bear.
