Compton Unified School District

Notice of Public Hearing Regarding                                                                                                          Content of Draft Maps and Proposed Sequence of Elections                                           (Relating to Transition to Board-Districts/Trustee Areas)

October 11, 2019

Please take notice that, on October 18, 2019, the Board of Trustees of the Compton Unified School District will hold a PUBLIC HEARING, commencing at 5:00 p.m., to receive public input regarding the content of draft maps and proposed sequence of elections, relating to the District’s transition to Board Districts (trustee areas).

Please take notice that, on November 2, 2019, the Board of Trustees of the Compton Unified School District will hold a SECOND PUBLIC HEARING, commencing at 10:00 a.m., to receive public input regarding the content of draft maps and proposed sequence of elections, relating to the District’s transition to Board Districts (trustee areas).

The public hearings will both be held in the Board Room of the District’s Administrative Offices, located at 501 S. Santa Fe Avenue, Compton, California 90221.

The Board is currently elected using an at-large election system, in which all Board members are elected by voters of the entire District. These public hearings are part of the procedure by which the system is being converted to a trustee-area election system.  In a trustee-area election system, the District will be divided into seven trustee areas and, for each trustee area, a board member will be elected by only the registered voters residing in that particular trustee area.  To be eligible for election, candidates would need to reside in the trustee area in which they are running for election.

Two prior public hearings were held (on September 30, 2019, and October 4, 2019) for the purposes of receiving public input regarding the composition of the trustee areas to be formed.  Members of the public were encouraged to participate and provide public input at these two prior hearings.

The two additional hearings (October 18 and November 2) will be held to receive public input regarding the content of draft maps and proposed sequence of elections, relating to the District’s transition to Board-Districts (trustee areas).

The proposed maps are attached to this notice.
