Miss Carson receives $2,000 scholarship, Miss Teen Carson receives $1,000; Carson Scholarship Pageant provides assistance for female residents of Carson to further their education

CARSON — Miss Carson and Miss Teen Carson were named by the City of Carson in a crowning scholarship pageant, April 27.

The contestants competed in the areas of evening and active wear, talent, and question-and-answer. The Miss Carson Scholarship Pageant began many years ago in 1971 and the previous one was held last year in 2017.

The 2018 Miss Carson, Bianca Perez, received a $2,000 scholarship; Miss Teen Carson, Erica Guico, received $1,000.

Bianca Perez joins several of the past winners who have attended notable schools. Perez is graduating this month from Marymount California University with a double major in accounting and finance.

“I am a first generation Hispanic girl raised in a single-parent household. I was blessed with four scholarships [and want] to give back to my community in the future by being an active scholarship sponsor for students here in Carson,” said Perez.

Guico is a senior at Harbor Teacher Preparation Academy working toward her high school diploma and Associates Arts degree in Liberal Arts. Guico says the pageant has “helped her develop self-confidence, communication skills, and problem-solving.”

Mayor Albert Robles expressed City pride in the pageant. “We are proud to bring this prestigious event once again this year,” he said. “It is important for us to honor and recognize the many talented young ladies in the City of Carson and the future they will represent.”

The significance of the Carson Scholarship Pageant is to provide assistance for female residents of Carson to further their education, be a vibrant representation of our younger generation, and a proud resident of the City of Carson.
