Southwest College discussion focus: ‘Homelessness, What Can We Do?’

LOS ANGELES — L.A. Southwest College  will host a panel discussion with local and regional politicians to address the long-standing issue of homelessness in the community, April 21, from 1to 3 p.m.  The college is located at 1600 W. Imperial Highway, Los Angeles.

Titled “Homelessness, What Can We Do?,” the discussion will occur in the lobby of the Students Services Building. And will address substantial increases in the number of homeless in the city and county of Los Angeles in the past two years. During that time, the number of tents, makeshift encampments and vehicles occupied by homeless people soared by 85 percent, according to Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority.

The event is free to the community and is sponsored by Los Angeles Southwest College’s Behavioral and Social Sciences Department, Black Student Union and Associated Student Organization as well as Community Reflections. It is part of an effort to harness resources and develop a strategy to eradicate homelessness in the South L.A. community.
