The universe is unending and many can’t wrap their minds around the notion of endless space, especially with humans as its sole tenants

A Facebook friend recently posted a hypothesis that of zillions of solar systems in the known universe, ours with 9 planets revolving around a single star is the only one bearing life.

That got me to thinking … we really can’t know that because what was noted in the aforementioned numerical value doesn’t even remotely amount to 000000.01 of 1percent of a shaving of a grain of sand in proximity to our solar system insofar as distance is concerned. The universe is unending. Many cannot wrap their minds around the reality of endless space.

It has to be a mathematical impossibility that among incalculable solar systems and planets in an eternal cosmos, our solar system is the only way station with sentient life in the black soup.

Throughout global history, there have been thousands of reports of close encounters of the First, Second, Third, and Fourth Kind, according to revered UFOlogist J. Allen Hynek.

Hynek describes these as the most common alleged encounters with beings not of this world with incidents declining as the numbers increase.

The “First Encounter” denotes a visual sighting of an unidentified flying object seemingly less than 500 feet away that reveal an appreciable angular extension and considerable detail.

The “Second Encounter,” is a UFO event in which a physical effect is alleged. This can be interference in the functioning of a vehicle or electronic device; animals reacting; a physiological effect such as paralysis or heat and discomfort in the witness; or physical evidence like impressions in the ground, scorched or otherwise affected vegetation, or a chemical trace.

A “Close Encounter of the Third Kind,” popularized in the blockbuster Steven Spielberg film of the same name, is explained by Hynek as an unmistakable visual sighting of otherworldly beings and their crafts.

A “Fourth Encounter” is direct contact and abduction by alien beings, as depicted in the 1975 film, “The UFO Incident: The Betty and Barney Hill Story.” (see video).

As common as the first through fourth alleged encounters have been in human history, not one has ever produced empirical evidence.

The encounter that would achieve that end would be a “Close Encounter of the Fifth Kind” — direct contact and communication. Whether a chance encounter of this nature ever happens, we will just have to wait and see. After all, in a universe crowded with zillions and zillions of solar and planetary systems, in all likelihood, another race of sentient beings similar or superior to humanity may be out there. It is more than reasonable to hypothesize we are not alone.

We just haven’t had, as yet, a “Close Encounter of the Fifth Kind.”
