Free sandbags available to Compton residents

Prove you live in Compton by showing a California driver’s license, California ID, or utility bill

Five-bag limit with proof of residency

COMPTON — As the first major storm of 2016 hits the southland, the City of Compton is offering free sandbags to residents to shore up their properties as a bulwark against heavy rains, which has come in deluges.

Residents may pick up free sandbags at the Compton Fire Department Station No. 1, 201 S. Acacia Ave., and sand may be acquired for free at the Public Works Yard, 458 S. Alameda Ave.

Sandbags are available until 6 p.m.; Sand is available until 4 p.m.

On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday only, sandbags are available from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., and sand is available from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Residents must show proof of residency within the city limits to receive the free items. Acceptable valid ID includes a California driver’s license, California ID, or utility bills.
