College links with ‘Everytable’ to provide free meals to students

COMPTON — Compton College is leveraging its partnership with Everytable, PBC to aid all currently enrolled Compton College students who may need access to free food resources during the campus closure from March 20 through April 17, 2020.

“Under normal circumstances, we know that there are Compton College students who struggle with basic needs such as food and housing insecurity,” said Compton College President Dr. Keith Curry. “During this extremely difficult time, while our campus is closed, we have worked with our generous partner Everytable to develop a plan to provide daily meals to Compton College students in need of food resources.”

Sonia Lopez, president of the Board of Trustees for the Compton Community College District, expressed gratitude to Everytable for stepping up to aid students.

“The Compton Community College District is grateful to Everytable, which has a mission to provide access to fresh, affordable food options to communities with limited access to healthy foods,” Lopez said. “It is important that we provide our students, who we know often struggle to afford basic needs, with access to food while our campus is closed during the COVID-19, Stay at Home mandate.”

“Healthy food should never be a luxury and that is true now more than ever,” said Sam Polk, founder and CEO of Everytable. “We’re proud to work with Compton College to provide nutritious meals for students highly vulnerable to food insecurity during these challenging times.”

A limited supply of free meals will be available during this time only to Compton College students with a current Compton College ID who are enrolled in the spring 2020 semester. Students may receive one meal per day, while supplies last at the location and following schedule:

Thirty meals will be available each weekday, Monday-Friday; Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Friday: 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., at 253 E. Compton Blvd., Compton, Calif.

Compton College students may visit the college’s COVID-19 information and resource webpage for a list of alternative resources during the campus closure.
