The Compton Herald inadvertently wrote in our endorsement story of May 26:

“For that reason and the fact that the voter turnout in the primary election was embarrassingly abysmal, suggests that most Compton residents — at least 47 percent favor the job the mayor is doing or suffer from abject apathy. Still, that leaves Brown’s detractors, whose total numbers contributed to a paltry 15 percent at the polls.”

The sentence should have read, “contributed to a paltry 15 percent in the voter turnout at the polls.”

The Herald regrets the error.

Compton Herald is a digital news publication providing clear, fair and current news, information and commentary about Compton and the Los Angeles metropolitan area of California, and the world.

53% of the voters rejected Aja Brown. That is a fact. No new math or trickery. 47% approve 53% disapprove. And when you add the tomfoolery at the polls by her campaign workers and the high number of residents whose polling place was closed or they were told they vote elsewhere, which contributed to the high number of provisional ballots, I am sure, as the residents of Compton are sure, that she did not truly receive 47%. However, it is beyond asinine, to endorse a candidate based on voter turnout, especially with the knowledge of the shenanigans that took place on Election Day, which included a fake bomb threat. An endorsement should be based on substance, and the work ethic and track record of the individual. Of which, there is very little substance and an abysmal track record when it comes to this Mayor. She seems to care about nothing but pot! Pot seems to be her theme! Pot holes, pot paraphernalia, and pot dispensaries! Moreover, with the release of the AQMD report that was given to “the mayor” which spoke to the rise and release of carcinogenic agents into the air around schools and private residents, and continuing to build anyway, simply shows how little she cares for the residents of Compton. Maybe, the blatant disrespect that she gave the residents by not showing up to a candidate debate after agreeing to participate, the residents will be ready for change! Truly, I am not angry because you endorsed one candidate over the other. I am angry because you chose this candidate over Compton and the will of the people!
