COMPTON — If you’ve ever envisioned a concept for a combination pizza café/Subway fusion, well, somebody already beat you to it. Pizza Studio in Compton, Calif. is the place to go when you don’t want to spend $20 to get pizza delivered and you still want quality pizza.

It is heaven to pizza lovers such as myself when you can visit Pizza Studio, choose your favorite fresh and flavorful ingredients, then wait no more than 5 minutes to have a piping hot 11-inch pizza delivered to your table or to-go.

Artisan pizza pie is my description for Pizza Studio. Beginning with their choice of 5 delectable thin crusts — traditional, rosemary herb, firecracker, whole grain & flax seed, and gluten free, these original crusts bring the flavor that many name-brand pizza chains lack.

The joint is family-oriented, fun, with music adding to a jovial atmosphere from universal speakers. Pizza Studios offers 6 house pizzas (see below) or you can just design your own. The routine goes like this: (1) choose your crust, (2) pick your sauce, (3) select your cheese, (4) load up toppings, and (4) add oil and spices.

Moving on down the assembly line in Subway-like fashion, patrons have a choice of foundational sauce spreads — tomato blend, Sweet Baby Ray’s, spicy buffalo, chipotle tomato blend, basil pesto, garlic alfredo, and extra virgin olive oil.

Next comes four varieties of cheese. Freshly grated mozzarella, crumbled goat, crumbled feta, or grated parmesan. Choose one or all four.

Premium meats include bacon, pepperoni (nitrate-free), pork sausage, chicken breast (all-natural), meatball, shaved ham, and chicken sausage.

When you are finally done selecting the toppings for your pizza, I can tell you, your mouth is watering with envy from the lucky customers already enjoying theirs. For a quality 11-inch artisan pizza, you only pay a nominal $8.50. That includes unlimited toppings.

I ordered whole grain & flax seed crust, tomato blend spread, grated mozzarella and parmesan, pepperoni, zucchini, olives, and minced garlic. When my pizza arrived, two things immediately enraptured my senses — the tantalizing aroma of the pizza, and the presentation. Then came the first bite. Oh my, the combination of flavors burst in my mouth. It was absolutely delish! Best pizza I ever had. You don’t just taste this pizza — you savor it.

Needless to say, my experience at Pizza Studio was wonderful. I returned a second time and have developed a fondness for this establishment and plan to patronize often.

Dine in or order to go. You will not regret it. The dining area is very clean, comfortable and if you come at the right time it will not be crowded. The industrial design, music, and wall art from local “starving artists” makes for a stylish and relaxing ambience.

Pizza Studio also offers salads, soft drinks, and gourmet cookies. To get a one-of-a-kind pizza experience. I wholeheartedly recommend Pizza Studio for pizza lovers, located at 1759 E. Alameda St., next to Starbucks in the Gateway Town Center in Compton, Calif. [MAP]

BACKYARD BBQ CHICKEN:
Traditional Crust, Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce, freshly grated mozzarella, chipotle roasted corn, all natural grilled chicken, red onion, finished with smoky ranch and cilantro.


THE BEAST:
Parmesan Cheese Crust, tomato blend, freshly grated mozzarella, nitrate-free pepperoni, meatball, shaved ham, bacon, pork sausage.


SKINNY GREEK:
Whole Grain and Flax Seed crust, extra virgin olive oil, garlic, kale, marinated artichoke, red onion, grape tomato, roasted red pepper, kalamata olive, banana pepper, feta, finished with basil tzatziki drizzle.


BIG CHEESE MARGHERITA:
Parmesan Cheese Crust, tomato blend, freshly grated mozzarella, roma tomato, parmesan, basil.


PREMIUM MEAT TOPPINGS
Bacon, pepperoni, pork sausage, chicken breast, meatball, shaved ham, chicken sausage


PREMIUM VEGGIE TOPPINGS
Red onion, roasted corn, mushroom, caramelized onion, mushroom truffle, banana pepper, Kalamata olive, zucchini, roasted red pepper chile roasted pineapple, minced garlic, marinated artichoke, jalapeño, roma tomato, Chipotle Roasted corn.
