Compton’s Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum kick starts aviation mechanics program with high-tech gift from American Airlines

COMPTON – Tomorrow’s Aeronautical Museum (TAM), here, continues to benefit from its partnership with American Airlines. Last week on Dec. 7, the global carrier presented TAM with a remarkable aviation gift – an auxiliary power unit, a high-tech device capable of powering an MD-80 jet aircraft.

“Priced at $90,000 retail, an airline quality APU provides the equipment necessary to give [airline mechanic]students valuable hands-on experience as they study to become mechanics for the airline industry,” said Robin Petgrave, founder, and director of TAM. “This donation demonstrates a continued dedication to improving our humble museum to Smithsonian quality and expand into a national program.”

According to Petgrave, American Airlines is committed to contributing to more enhancements for TAM.

“This is just the beginning,” he said. “American Airlines has committed valuable man hours, monetary support, and physical equipment. They have expressed a desire to further our programs and make TAM even more effective at producing quality professionals for the aviation industry.

“Everyone at TAM appreciates [American Airlines’] continued support and untiring dedication to [enhance] the city of Compton and its surrounding communities,” Petgrave added.
