CARSON — The City of Carson hosted an outreach event to the homeless on Thursday., Oct. 27 at Dominguez Park. Showers, grooming, food, access to social services, clothing, personal hygiene kits, reading glasses, dental care, blood pressure checks and homeless veteran services were made available to dozens of area homeless.

In addition, the Carson Career Center provided job readiness assessments and employment services.

“Homelessness is a challenge that all cities face and the city of Carson is no exception,” commented Mayor Albert Robles. “With nearly 200 homeless individuals living within our city’s boundaries, we have a responsibility to provide services and solutions for this challenged population. Being homeless and poor is not a crime.”

While the City of Carson is not experiencing a high increase in its homeless population, it’s not seeing a reduction in the homeless population. The mayor and City Council have engaged in using a collaborative model that emphasizes partnering with local faith and community-based organizations and taking a comprehensive approach to reducing homelessness.

Partnering organizations included: People Assisting the Homeless (PATH), the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, Calvary Chapel-South Bay, the Boys and Girls Club, South Bay Family Health, Los Angeles County Public Mental Health and U.S. Vets.
