“Annual National Night Out,” purposed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, occurs Tues., Aug. 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the Gateway Town Center, Target Store, 1621 S. Alameda St. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the City of Compton, Target, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, National Night Out involves more than 12,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.
